Claims

Claims Representatives must initially determine whether a customer's insurance policy provides coverage for the loss or damage that has occurred. If there is coverage, the Claims Representative investigates the claim, negotiates the settlement, and authorizes payment to the claimant. This career combines a broad background in various kinds of damages or losses, with an in-depth understanding of insurance.
Finance

Financial Services assists our organization by providing critical support in the following area: accounting, billing, corporate risk management, fiscal planning, product analysis, product research & development, and statistical analysis. From customer service and compliance to management information and product analysis, Financial Services is there to support our business needs.
Human Resources

Human Resources professionals are responsible for Preferred’s programs and policies that support our most valuable asset – our people. Functional areas of HR include: employment, compensation, benefits, performance management, employee relations, recruitment and retention, and legal compliance.
Information Technology

The rapid spread of computers and computer-based technologies has generated a need for skilled, highly trained workers to design and develop hardware and software systems and to incorporate these advances into new and existing systems. Our Information Technology staff is responsible for both mainframe and personal computer networks that maintain and manage the data that is so vital to our success. Career opportunities exist in programming, operations, and application development.
Support Services

The insurance promise is only as good as the service that stands behind it. Working behind the scenes, the various support areas meet the challenge of fulfilling the promise. From timely, accurate processing of the policy, to responding to customer questions, to assisting coworkers, these employees are at the center of our commitment to providing exceptional customer service to both internal and external customers. Career areas include underwriting support, mail, facilities, food service and other support functions.
Underwriting

Underwriters establish a partnering relationship with our independent agent customers to develop a profitable, growing book of business. They determine the acceptability of insurance risks based on company guidelines and marketing direction, evaluate information, determine a price, and make sure the risk is properly classified. Today’s underwriter must have a blend of marketing skills, analytical ability and underwriting knowledge to be successful.
