"Insurance is here to stay – people and companies all need insurance! – and I know that I am setting myself up for a future of progress.”
Eric began his career search looking for fast-paced, agile positions outside of the restaurant industry. As a business owner and chef, Eric was used to, and even enjoyed, the hustle of service, but the uncertainty of income and instability of the industry kept his future hanging in the balance.
“I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted at the time of my search, but I knew that I’d miss the intensity of a day’s work at the restaurant. I started in sales in a large insurance agency, and while I enjoyed aspects of that job, I was drawn to Claims. Aside from the interesting cases and the people I meet every day, there is a huge misconception by those who have not worked in the insurance industry of how the backside of claim is handled. I enjoy changing that misconception and I am finding that I am never bored!
A catastrophe one day and a regular day the next, my job definitely keeps me on my toes. In one way or another, I touch everything that comes in to my unit; I am making a difference. That brings me satisfaction to know how vital I am to our customers and my team. I am not a hero, but if I can make one person’s day a little better with my service and industry knowledge, then I feel like I am.
When you start out, you don’t often worry about your future and job stability, or at least I didn’t. A job was just a job. However, now that I have found a career in insurance, and I look forward to coming to work every day, I am realizing how much catching up I have to do. Insurance is here to stay – people and companies all need insurance! – and I know that I am setting myself up for a future of progress.”
