What is Multi‑Factor Authentication (MFA)?
Multi‑Factor Authentication (MFA) is an extra layer of security to help protect your MyPreferred account.
It means you’ll need two ways to prove it’s really you when you log in:
    • Something you know — your password
    • Something you have — a code from your phone or an authentication app
This makes it much harder for anyone else to access your account, even if they know your password.
Why is MFA important?
Passwords alone can be guessed, stolen, or shared by mistake. MFA helps ensure that only you can log in, by requiring a second form of verification. This keeps your personal details, insurance policy information, and documents safer.
How will MFA work in MYPreferred?
When you log in:
• Enter your username and password (as usual).
• Complete the second step by providing a code from:
o Google Authenticator or similar app — a smartphone app that generates secure codes
o Phone — receive a code by voice call or text message (SMS)

How do I enroll in MFA?
When MFA is turned on for your account, you’ll be prompted to set it up the first time you log in:
Step 1: Log in with your username and password.
Step 2: Choose your MFA method:
    • Google Authenticator or similar app — You’ll scan a QR code with the app to link it to your account.
    • Phone (voice or text) — Enter your phone number and choose whether to receive codes by voice call or text message.
Step 3: Verify your method by entering the code provided.
Step 4: You’re now enrolled — the next time you log in, you’ll use your password and your chosen MFA method.

How do I manage or change my MFA method?
Once logged in:
1. Go to MyPreferred Account.
2. Select Edit Profile.
3. Click the Multi‑Factor tab.

Before you can make changes, you’ll need to enter an MFA code one more time to confirm it’s you.
After that, you can add or remove:
    • Email address
    • Phone number
    • Authenticator app

What if I get a new phone or change my number?
If your MFA method uses your phone number or an authentication app:
• Phone method — Update your phone number in MyPreferred before losing access to your old number.
• Authenticator app — Install the app on your new phone, then update your MFA setup in MyPreferred.

If you can’t log in because you no longer have access to your MFA method, contact Preferred Mutual Customer Support.

What should I do if I don’t receive my code?
• For text messages (SMS) — Check your mobile signal and confirm your number is correct.
• For voice calls — Make sure your phone is able to receive calls and is not blocking unknown numbers.
• For authentication app — Confirm your phone’s date/time settings are correct (codes are time‑based).

If you still don’t receive the code, request a new one or contact Customer Support.

What is an authenticator app?
An authenticator app is a free smartphone application that creates secure one‑time codes for logging in.
Popular options include:
    • Google Authenticator
    • Microsoft Authenticator
    • Authy
    • Duo
Once set up, the app works even without mobile signal or internet.

Can I use MFA on trusted devices?
Yes. If you are logging in from a device you use regularly (like your personal computer, tablet, or phone), you may see an option that says:
“Remember this device for 30 days”
When you select this, MyPreferred will remember your device for 30 days, so you won’t have to enter an MFA code each time you log in from it.

Tip: Only choose “Remember this device for 30 days” on devices you personally own and control, and avoid using it on shared or public computers.

Security tip — Beware of phishing attempts
Preferred Mutual will never call, email, text or ask for your MFA code outside of the secure login process.
If you receive a request for your MFA code from anyone claiming to be Preferred Mutual, do not share it — contact Customer Support immediately.
Is MFA mandatory?
Yes. MFA is required for all MyPreferred accounts to help protect your information. You will not be able to log in without completing MFA enrollment.
