On Earth Day, Saturday, April 22, approximately 60 volunteers from Preferred Mutual, NY Pizzeria, and Stevie’s Spiedies came together for the Adopt-A-Highway Program. Volunteers spent nearly three hours cleaning up a six-mile stretch of Route 8 in New Berlin, collecting more than 63 large bags of garbage from the sides of the road.

New York State’s Adopt-A-Highway Program was initiated in 1990 in response to declining work force and a reduced operating budget, including having fewer resources available for roadside beautification. Volunteers of this program “adopt” sections of highway and pledge to keep it free of litter and debris. This year, we selected Earth Day for our Adopt-A-Highway cleanup in support of environmental awareness and protection.

Preferred Mutual, NY Pizzeria and Stevie’s Spiedies have joined forces for the annual cleanup on Route 8 since the fall of 2013.
