Preferred Mutual and the Preferred Foundation value academic excellence and community involvement, and consequently have been offering scholarship opportunities to local seniors for more than 25 years.

The Preferred Foundation, a corporate giving entity of Preferred Mutual Insurance Company ("Preferred Mutual"), has awarded scholarships to four local high school seniors graduating in 2018.

The Preferred Mutual Foundation administers two scholarships each year, the Preferred Foundation Scholarship and the Irad and Jan Ingraham / James. W. Honeywell Memorial Scholarship. Both scholarships honor two students for their accomplishments.

The Preferred Mutual Foundation Scholarship is awarded to college-bound high school seniors that reside in Otsego, Delaware, or Chenango, New York counties and is evaluated on academic merit and responsibility to community. The Irad and Jan Ingraham / James W. Honeywell Memorial Scholarship is awarded to Unadilla Valley Central School seniors that have demonstrated a commitment to community service while upholding a strong academic standing. 

Thomas Knight, a senior at Cooperstown Central School, is the first-place winner of the 2018 Preferred Mutual Foundation Scholarship and will receive $3,000 each year for four years. Knight is planning on attending Dartmouth College in the fall. Laurens Central School student Taylor Murch is the second-place winner of the 2018 Preferred Mutual Foundation Scholarship. Murch will receive $1,500 each year for four years and is planning on attending Clarkson University in the fall.

Colby Moore is the first-place winner of the 2018 Irad and Jan Ingraham / James W. Honeywell Memorial Scholarship. Moore, a senior at Unadilla Valley Central School, will be awarded $1,500 each year for four years and is planning on attending SUNY Cobleskill in the fall. Unadilla Valley Central School senior Adam Lamont has been named as the second-place winner and will be awarded $1,000 each year for four years. Lamont is planning on attending SUNY Cortland in the fall.

Preferred Mutual and the Preferred Foundation value academic excellence and community involvement, and consequently have been offering scholarship opportunities to local seniors for more than 25 years. The scholarships can be applied to college-related expenses.
